Matter Of Style goes on tour de France

This summer my good friend Daniela is on a very adventurous vacation: leaving from the frontier between Italy and France she'll ride with her bicycle across the south of France to arrive in Paris. After visiting the cité de l'amour she'll make her way back to Italy. During her trip she'll stop in local markets to show her beautiful watercolor paintings and a few of my handmade jewels. She's taking Matter Of Style on a tour de France! So this summer you'll may find these Matter Of Style earrings across France. If you like them, don't worry,it's not going to be a treasure hunt, Daniela will keep me updated and i will inform you of dates and locations with twitter (they aren't fixed, the brave girl has to reach the location against bad weather and fatigue :) sorridente ).

Thanks Daniela and Bon Voyage!

  • gros grain ribbon
  • beads and sequins
  • silver thread
  • 2 meters of chain to make the strap
  • eyelets

avrete bisogno di:
  • tovagliette americane di paglia
  • nastro di raso per decorare la pattina
  • grosgrain
  • perline e paiettes
  • filo argentato
  • 2 metri di catena dorata per la tracolla
  • occhielli

the pattern, click on the images to see them bigger.
il modello, cliccate per vederlo più grande

Sew all the pieces leaving the fringes on the outside
cucite tutti i pezzi lasciando sporgere le frangie

i've boughts some meters of satin ribbons to decorate the flap, this way it will shine under the light
i've chosen 2 different tones of blue and then a shiny silver one

i've weaved the silk ribbon into the straw flap with the help of a pin used as a replacement of the needle;i've alterned the colors.
Then i've added the silver ribbon onto the body of the bag and sides too.

In this pic you can see the different ribbons inserted into the texture of the flap.
To keep every ribbon in place i've handstitched a quilted pattern with a silver shiny thread and i've added some random beads.

now to add more details i've used a gros grain ribbon and i've handstiched onto it some beads and sequins and little pieces cut from the placemats with the silver thread.
Then i've placed the gros grain border onto the flap of the bag.

the flap almost finished
now it's time to put the bag together, i've sewn the flap onto the body of the bag then i've added the eyelets needed to add the chain strap.

then i've weaved a blue satin ribbon into the chain strap and the bag it's finished!
This bag required a lot of work but as you can see its beauty it's all in the details.

Little straw bag DIY

The inspiration

Here's my lasted diy! A straw bag is perfect for summer but it doesn't necessarily have to be that giant bag we carry at the beach, it can be an elegant small bag to carry during the day made precious with beads and silver wire. This bag is made out of what we call in Italy "american tablecloths" but i'm sure that is not their name in America. They are small tablecloths suitable to set the table for one person. As soon as i saw them they remainded me of the famous boucle fabric used so much by Chanel so at that point the idea of the bag came on its own.
What do you think of the result? Tomorrow i'll give you all the details to make your own.

Check the tutorial here
