Fashion can be fun
The fashion world is an estremely serious business where creative vision, millions of dollars and stricht schedules are mixed together. The model's first rule on the catwalk is "don't smile".With this ad campain Lanvin wanted to go over this seriousness that often communicate extreme luxe but rarely fun.
Models are really goofy in the dance, they can walk and stare but maybe no one have ever asked them to dance. Do you like Lanvin Fall Winter 2011-2012 Ad Campaign?Do you find it funny?

Mother of Five vs. Pa. Unemployment Board
There will be a hearing this morning for Amy Volciak, the Media mother-of-five who lost her unemployment earlier this summer over what appears to be a bureaucratic snafu.
I wrote about Amy a couple of weeks ago. (That column can be found here.) Not only was she told by the state that she was being dropped from its unemployment roles, she was also told that she had to pay back the $4,600 in compensation she'd received since December.
Over the last two months she has spent hours on phone and written everyone she can think of to help her rectify the situation. Efforts by State Rep. Tom Killion's office were only slightly productive.
While it had been suggested to her that she take a lawyer with her to the hearing, she couldn't find one on such short notice or who would represent her without getting paid upfront.
Instead, she will have me, a sorry substitute but the price is right. I'll report back how it went this afternoon.
CORRECTION: Alert readers will see that Amy's first name is oddly misspelled in my column. That's how it came in on the original email she sent me (her way of making it distinctive) and, of course, it stuck. My bad.
UPDATE: Filed my column for tomorrow about this. I sat through an hour hearing in front of state unemployment referee Tiffany McMaster. She explained to Amy - in fairly blunt terms - that she was not empowered to overturn any decision by the Unemployment Compensation Board of Review, though she also explained that Amy probably wouldn't have to pay back any of the money she was given because the board ruled that she didn't do anything fraudulent to get it.
McMaster, a graduate of Academy Park High School and Manhattanville College in New York, has been a referee in the state system since 2007. She made it clear she didn't want to hear a lot from Amy about her case. Her hands, she indicated, were tied by law. But her explanation of things was pendantic, officious and borderline obnoxious until late in the hearing when she at least voiced a little understating and sympathy to Amy's plight.
"If I were sitting in your shoes I wouldn't like it either," McMaster said.
For her part, Amy was unfailingly polite and grateful for any chance to explain what happened in her case and why she thought it was wrong and unfair. She didn't get much of one. And in the end it was clear there was basically nothing McMaster could do for her.
After the hearing, Amy had to go to her part-time job. She said PECO had sent her a shut-off notice and her payment for her van was overdue.
I called Media employment attorney Ron Surkin and told him about Amy's case. Based on what I told him, he wasn't optimistic about a positive outcome. He said she didn't have a "chance in hell" of getting the board to overturn its decision without being help from a competent attorney. But they cost money and Amy doesn't have any. So there.

A fancy new hat for an old lamp
This lamp lost its head a few years ago, today I wanted to try to give it a new life and place it in a romantic themed room with a pink palette.
the old lamp without its hat: its body looks just like a stem
I bought a fake flower
I disassemled it
widened the hole at the center
inserted the petals into the disassembled body of the lamp
I cut some leaf shaped pieces of paper
and glued them onto the bottom of the flower
I put the light back on and the lamp refashion is done.
What do you think of the result?

Hurricane Hype
Except for knocking out the power for almost 24 hour at Casa Spencerblog, Hurricane Irene was a bit of a disappointment in the drama department.
There was the obligatory flooding and a few toppled trees but it fell far short of the Storm of the Century that it was promoted as.
I'm not complaining but Mrs. Spencerblog is. When a natural disaster is predicted, she prepares like a Navy Seal. Water, food, patio furniture brought inside and plenty of beer on hand in case friends find themselves homeless and needing a place to stay. (Okay, maybe not like a Navy Seal. More like a Navy Seal's mother.)
She lived through Mount St. Helen's in Washington State and ever since has been preparing for the worst when it comes earth quakes, hurricanes and blizzards. She likes the drama.
To be safe, she slept downstairs Saturday night with the cat and dogs, so as to avoid being crushed by a tree coming through our bedroom window. I risked it upstairs. And lived to tell the tale.

A NYC Real Wedding | Photo Crush | Angelica Glass
Take a look at this real NYC wedding, shot by the amazing New York photographer Angelica Glass. She is so talented! I love her unique style and her ability to capture emotion and wedding details. This wedding is absolutely beautiful! I love all the details from the pink flowers to the dessert bar! Yum! I also love that the couple added their venue, New York Public Library, into the wedding decor, like the table cards. Such a neat idea! What do you think? Do you have a photo crush too?

A Not So Funny Thing Happened to My Aunt Dottie...
Don't worry, other than a broken collar bone and abrasions on her face, neck, chest, ear and nose, she was fine.
Movie Night? This Looks Like Fun...
By the way, saw the well-reviewed Crazy Stupid Love with Mrs. Spencerblog. She called it Crazy Stupid Movie. She got no argument from me.
How About We Sturlaize 'Em?
State Rep Mike Sturla is worried about badly-behaving gas workers spreading STDs among the "womenfolk" of Northeastern Pa. However, when it comes to the sorry sexual decisions of his own constituents he is less judgmental.

Let's Hear It for Diversity!
Elmhurst College asks perspective students if they're gay. The right answer can win you a scholarship.
"We're offering an incentive to a group of students who are looking for a home and may not find that in a lot of other places, we consider that a good thing. It's very consistent with our mission," said (Dean of Students) Gary Rold.Well, if their mission is to make their college a laughing stock, mission accomplished.

How to fix a broken eyeshadow
How many times happens to break an eyeshadow? We have to clean everything up and then tens of dollars go into the trash. Just few days ago I have broken an eyeshadow in my favorite shade of green and I thought: is it possible that it can't it be fixed? It's only pressed powder. So I searched for a tutorial on the internet and I found the solution!
you only need a few drops of alcohol
avete bisogno solo di qualche goccia di alcol
pour the alcohol into the eyeshadow
versate qualche goccia di alcol nell'ombretto
take a piece of tissue paper and press down over the powder with a flat surface (ideally big as the eyeshadow), really press!
prendete un pezzetto di carta o di stoffa e premete la polvere con una superficie piatta, io ho usato un tappo di bottiglia, premete con forza
the powder is now well pressed
ed ecco la polvere nuovamente pressata
I tried again with again with the orange eyeshadow
i'll leave them open for a few days to allow the alcohol to evaporate
lascerò gli ombretti all'aria qualche giorno per permettere all'alcol di evaporare completamente
I'm pretty satisfied with the result, I've turned the eyeshadow upside down and the powder stayed in place.
Here's the full video that teached me this technique:

Sequin nails by Glammed up
Sequins are going to be a hot trend this winter so why don't glam up our nails with sequins instead of just sparkly glitters? I have to say that these nails found surfing the web really grab the attention.

Garofolo Malkined
Michele Malkin calls out Janeane Garafolo for her patronizing and racist views concerning the presidential candidacy of Herm Cain.
Is there anything more condescending than a porcelain-skinned Hollywood liberal who attempts to show her presumed solidarity with minorities by referring to them as “people of color”?Read it all.
Yes, there is: Two porcelain-skinned liberals attempting to show their allegiance to “diversity” by attacking “people of color” who happen to disagree with their radical politics.
The Pope and the Billionaire

EPA Makes Economy Go "Boom!"
This is my first link to the comments section of a letter to the editor. I was going to say something about Dr. Tsou's wingnuttery but I see I have beaten to the punch.
I will offer this: Dr. Tsou says that new EPA regulations would be a "boom" to the economy. Inadvertantly, he has that right.
